Travel can be expensive, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up on your dreams of exploring the world. There are plenty of ways to save money while traveling and make the most of your adventures, even on a budget. In this article, we’ll explore some of the most effective money-saving tips for traveling.

Plan ahead

Planning is essential for saving money while traveling. By planning ahead, you can save money on flights, accommodations, and activities. It’s also important to research the tourist season and avoid peak periods when prices are highest.

Choosing affordable accommodations

Accommodation is one of the biggest expenses when traveling. To save money, choose affordable options such as hostels, bed and breakfasts, and apartment rentals. Online booking sites like Booking.com and Airbnb are good options for finding budget-friendly accommodations.

Eat like the locals

Food is another major expense when traveling. To save money, avoid tourist restaurants and eat like the locals. Look for local markets, street food stalls, and small family-run restaurants to discover local cuisine at affordable prices.

Use public transport

Public transportation is often much cheaper than taxis and rental cars. Use public transportation to get around the cities and regions you’re visiting. Train and bus tickets can be booked in advance to save even more money.

Avoid expensive tourist attractions

The most popular tourist attractions are often the most expensive. To save money, avoid the most famous tourist attractions and discover lesser-known but equally interesting sites. Research free or inexpensive tourist attractions, such as public parks, free museums, or free walking tours.

Traveling in the off-season

Traveling during the off-season can be a great way to save money. Flights and accommodations are often cheaper during these periods. In addition, destinations are often less crowded, allowing you to enjoy your trip without the tourist crowds.

Share the costs with other travelers

If you’re traveling with a group of friends or family, share the costs to save money. You can split the expenses for accommodation, transportation, and food to significantly reduce costs. Furthermore, traveling in a group can also help you get discounts on tours and activities.

In conclusion, traveling on a budget isn’t impossible. It simply requires planning ahead, choosing affordable accommodations, eating like the locals, using public transportation, avoiding expensive tourist attractions, traveling during the off-season, and sharing costs with other travelers. By following these tips, you can save money while traveling and thus have more flexibility to explore new places and experience unforgettable adventures. Find all the latest travel news at assistance-demarches.fr .

However, it’s also important to remember that traveling on a budget may require sacrifices. You might have to forgo some comforts or more expensive experiences, but that doesn’t mean you can’t fully enjoy your trip. In fact, traveling on a budget can even be a more authentic and enriching experience, as it allows you to discover local culture and life more deeply.

Ultimately, saving money while traveling is all about priorities and compromises. If you’re willing to make smart choices and be flexible, you can have incredible travel experiences without breaking the bank. Whether you’re going on a weekend getaway or a multi-month trip, use these tips to save money and make your trip even more memorable.

It has been a while since I was allowed to visit beautiful Langkawi in Malaysia. Langkawi is located about 30 km from the mainland. It is one of the 99 islands in the Andaman Sea. In Langkawi everyone can do something fun. You can make beautiful scooter trips, spend a day at the beach or look for the high altitude! I did the latter, in combination with a self-organized scooter tour on the island.

To do on Langkawi, with your scooter to the Sky Bridge

1. SkyBridge

When visiting Langkawi, a trip to the SkyBridge is a must. Intended for daredevils, because this is the longest suspension bridge in the world! The SkyBridge is 125 meters long and it was certainly not an easy feat to hang this bridge. Ultimately, the suspension bridge was lifted to the top of the mountain by helicopter and was later suspended from there in its current position.

A nice side effect of the SkyBridge is, because it is located in the middle of nature, and is full of nice monkeys. They climb and scramble around and around you. A good tip is to hold onto your sunglasses and tuck away your food. The monkeys love treats and want to take them away from you, which is of course not healthy for them….

2. SkyCab

To get to this longest SkyBridge, another challenge awaits. You can only get to the SkyBridge by taking the steepest funicular (the SkyCab) in the world up. During this ride you get a beautiful view over the country. With clear weather you can even see the islands around Langkawi. The SkyCab goes over a rock that is more than 550 million years old and is located in the oldest part of Southeast Asia. The journey from the base station to the middle station will cover 1,700 meters and here you can already enjoy a beautiful panoramic view. Continue to the top station at an altitude of 708 meters above sea level. From here you can hike to two platforms at the top of Machincang Mountain. Here you have a beautiful view.

3. SkyDome

For those who prefer not to ascend to the high altitude, around the lower station at the foot of Machincang Mountain there is much more to do, such as a visit to the SkyDome, a 3D museum or a walk in the Oriental Village. Definitely worth taking a look. Tickets for all activities can be purchased on site.

4. Other Activities

Besides this heroic activity, there is much more to discover in Langkawi. There are plenty of beaches to relax in and the town itself is great fun to walk through. In the evening there are also various fire shows on the beaches. It is also possible to go island hopping along the beautiful islands in the area and in the evening the night market is the place to be for the tastiest dishes from different cultures.

A protected natural island on the west coast of Crete

We already showed that Crete is more than the touristic Hersonissos and Star Beach in our article about the other side of Crete . But the area around the island is also full of gems. Rocky beaches with clear blue water fill the more than 1000 km long coastline. Along this coast is also the protected Gramvousa peninsula, which can only be reached by boat.

gramvousa

The small peninsula of Gramvousa, made up of Imeri and Agria Gramvousa, has a history of which impressive remains can still be found. On Imeri Gramvousa are the remains of an ancient Venetian fortress, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. Formerly lived on the peninsula Cretan insurgents during the Greek War of Independence, now it is an island of pure tranquility.

How do you get there?

From the Netherlands you fly directly to Crete (Heraklion) in about 3.5 hours. If you book a flight ticket to Crete with Transavia, you can even choose from three airports: Schiphol, Eindhoven and Rotterdam/The Hague. From Heraklion Airport you can easily take the bus to the west of the island. It is really nice if you have your own transport and rent a car. Once in West Crete, you can take the boat from Kissamos to Gramvousa. Gramvousa Balos Cruise will bring you here, among others.

The boat stops first at Imeri Gramvousa, also giving you time to make the 137m climb to the fortress, which takes about 15 minutes. The climb is soon rewarded by the breathtaking view of the coastline of beautiful Crete. With a bit of luck you can see the Caretta Caretta sea turtles in the clear blue waters in the protected area of Imeri Gramvousa . There are also rumors of treasures buried on the island.

Lagoon Balos

The next stop is Lagoon Balos . With small boats you arrive at the beautiful beach of Balos, which is characterized by the low water. On this island you will find rare plants, so it has been decided to place this area completely under protection. Enough sunscreen is not a superfluous luxury when visiting Balos, also known as Tigani Balos: the casserole. It didn’t get its name just like that, because there is hardly a piece of shade to be found here.

Practical

Boats to Gramvousa depart from Kissamos, on the west coast of Crete. You can already order the tickets via the Gramvousa website. This way you are cheaper and you have the certainty that you will not be faced with a full boat in Kissamos. Bring your own food and drink, or buy it on the boat. Gramvousa is a natural island and you will not find dining options there. Another tip: before boarding, take a look at the town itself. Kissamos is known as a relatively small, non-touristy rural village where you get to see the real Crete among the Greek population. Worth taking a leisurely stroll around!

Great discoveries in Malta’s little sister

Together with Comino, Gozo forms a sister island of the Maltese archipelago. From Malta, a ferry trip takes you to paradise Gozo in just 25 minutes. The small island is quieter and greener than its big sister. Lovely to stay for a few days, but also doable as a day trip from Malta. I went for the latter and found that you can do more than enough on Gozo!

“Malta? It’s busy there, hectic. All those cars!”. It soon becomes clear to me upon arrival in Gozo; despite belonging to the Maltese archipelago, this is an island in its own right. Most locals only make the crossing to Malta if they really need something, because Gozo is their heart. And I understand that too. Despite its small size, there is a lot to do in Gozo. From wandering through historic cities and ancient temples, to sunbathing in secluded coves and enjoying delicious food.

Cultural Rabat

All roads on Gozo lead to Rabat. The capital of the island, not to be confused with the city of the same name in Malta. To complicate matters even more, Rabat is also known as Victoria. Whatever you want to call it, this is the great city of Gozo. The only place where you forget for a moment that you are on a small island. The highlight of the city is the market square, It-Tokk, where you can immerse yourself in the daily life of the islanders. Also not to be missed is the historic Citadel, which is visible from almost all places on the island. Once built to protect the inhabitants and now above all a nice place to wander around and to revive the Gozo of yesteryear.

Rabat is not the only special city on the island. The town of Ix-Xewkija is a must-visit alone because of the impressive church of St. John the Baptist. The enormous structure is completely out of proportion to the small size of the island and definitely worth a visit. For a few euros you can walk in and climb the tower.

Ggantija Temples

A must do on Gozo: visit the prehistoric temples of Ġgantija. These ruins are the oldest free-standing buildings on Earth. So older than the Pyramids in Egypt. It is a mystery how the temples were built, as they consist of huge limestone blocks. A bizarre sensation to walk through there!

Hit the beach!

But enough culture for now. In terms of relaxation, there is also plenty to see, taste and do on Gozo. And not least on the beaches. Where Malta has to make do with rocks and sandy beaches, Gozo is rich in beautiful bays and elongated sandy beaches that have a special red hue.

The bay of San Blas is my top recommendation. What a beautiful spot! You have to know where to find it, and have a good walk for it. This is rewarded with a relatively quiet beach and amazing views. The beach can be found on the north coast of Gozo and via a steep descent you arrive at one of the best hidden gems on Gozo.

Do you depend on public transport or do you like a bit of crowds? Then choose nearby Ramla Bay. Similar to San Blas, but a lot bigger and much more accessible. If you have the luxury of staying longer than a day in Gozo, this is a very nice place to hang out for a day. Enjoy swimming, sunbathing or water sports!

The local cuisine

The best of Italian cuisine, combined with fresh fish and local wines. The food and drink on the Maltese Islands is another reason why you should travel to this piece of land. Despite the fact that it is small and quite dry, you will also find a vineyard on Gozo. I visited Ta Mena Estate , run by the Spiteri family. Joe, one of the brothers, talks passionately about the company, the wines they produce and the organic produce grown there. Time to taste and take one last look at the vineyard and move on. Lunch waits!

And you do that in a very special location at Restaurant Kantra at the bay of Mġarr ix-Xini. Located near the Ġgantija temples, it consists of a luxury hotel on the highest point of Gozo, and a restaurant in the nearby bay. The place is the scene of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s new movie ‘By the sea’, and when you see it with your own eyes, you’ll understand why. The hotel is quite luxurious, but if you take a seat at the Beach Club you can eat the tastiest fish dishes in Gozo with a spectacular view for a very good price. A place where you actually want to linger for an afternoon – and you can! Grab your glass of wine and take a seat on one of the sunbeds by the water!

MALE PIS

The main attraction of Brussels is of course Manneken Pis. The statue of the peeing boy can be found within walking distance of the Grote Markt and is the symbol of the city. Not very big and impressive, but if you’re in the area it’s nice to walk past it. He can look different every time, because the male is regularly put on a beautiful themed outfit.

LARGE MARKET

The beating heart of touristic Brussels is formed by the Grand-Place. This is the main square of the city and measures 111 by 56 meters. It is one of the most beautiful market squares in Europe and is even on the UNESCO World Heritage List, but really only flowers are sold. Anyway, the Grand Place is one of the main attractions of Brussels and just a really beautiful square. Be sure to stop by to admire the many special buildings. However, don’t be tempted to sit on the terrace here, because you are guaranteed to pay the top prize.

The Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert are three covered shopping arcades in the center of Brussels. Perfect to visit if it rains for a day, because you can shop here indoors or drink a cup of coffee on the terrace. Do you like chocolate? Then be sure to take a look at Chocolatier Neuhaus, the inventor of praline.

TASTING BELGIAN BEERS

If there is one thing they are good at in Belgium, it is brewing beer. In the center of Brussels you can take a break in many nice places with a nice specialty beer. For the beer, choose a well-known Belgian brewery or get to know microbrewers that you will not encounter everywhere. You can do a sort of pub crawl through the best beer bars in Brussels yourself (we’ll recommend a few in this article!), but it’s also fun to do it with an expert guide. Via Getyourguide you can easily book a 2.5-hour beer tasting with a guide.

EATING A BRUSSELS WAFFLE

Definitely do when you are in Brussels: eat a waffle. Together with fries, this is the most famous street food dish in the city. Everywhere in the center you will find small bakeries and cake shops where they bake fresh gaufres de Bruxelles, light waffles with a topping of powdered sugar, whipped cream, ice cream or chocolate. The Brussels waffle is slightly larger, lighter and less sweet than the Liège waffle.

WALK THE COMICS ROUTE

You will find cool street art in many places in Brussels, but one of the most beautiful projects is the so-called Strip Route. Tintin, Spirou, Astrix and many other Belgian-French comic book heroes are immortalized on high walls and together form a trail along almost sixty ‘comic strip walls’ . You will naturally encounter them during a walk along the various sights in Brussels or during an afternoon shopping, but you can also cross them off during one of the three special walking routes.

Also fun to do in Brussels during a weekend trip: treasure hunting at the daily flea market on the Vossenplein. You can visit this market every (!) morning to stroll past dozens of stalls with trinkets and curiosities. Don’t forget to haggle!

If you haven’t passed the Vossenplein yet, fortunately you can also satisfy your vintage need in the rest of the district. Walk through the Vossenstraat and the Hoogstraat to the center and you will pass dozens of nice vintage and second-hand shops. Here you can pick up vintage designer furniture, but also browse shops where second-hand clothes are sold by the kilo.

ALSO A WEEKEND TO BRUSSELS?

Would you also like to spend a weekend in Brussels? There are a lot of nice hotels where you can stay overnight. We ourselves sleep in the wonderful Sofitel Brussels Europe , where they prepare a very tasty breakfast for you every morning. This hotel is located in the European quarter, a few minutes by metro from the city center. Also an option: stay the night at Motel One Brussels . This hotel is very affordable and is also very central to the major sights in Brussels.

From Utrecht it is about a two hour drive to Brussels by car. You can also go by train. Take the Thalys or international intercity, and travel comfortably and without traffic jams to Brussels. The price for a weekend in Brussels with the Thalys starts at € 29 for a single journey .

Kenya is best known as a safari destination. A Kenya safari conjures up images of hungry lionesses searching for prey, marching elephants and curious giraffes. A red-colored sun sets on the savanna. The acacias turn dark when night falls. It is therefore the dream of many travelers to go on holiday to Kenya. Are you going on a Kenya tour? We share the highlights that you should not miss, in addition to a safari!

HOLIDAY KENYA, MUCH MORE THAN AN UNFORGETTABLE KENYA SAFARI

It’s true: Kenya is magical. Its nature is breathtaking and nothing beats camping in the Masai Mara! But Kenya has so much more to offer than an unforgettable Kenya safari. The coast around Mombasa is beautiful. White sand beaches and rocky cliffs alternate. Diving enthusiasts will have the time of their lives and snorkelers will discover the vibrant coral in Watamu Marine Park. The west of Kenya is green: green with banana plantations, tea fields and rolling hill landscapes. The country borders Africa’s largest lake, Lake Victoria, and after Mount Kilimanjarothe highest mountain on the continent: Mount Kenya. In short, enough reasons to book a Kenya holiday quickly. With this itinerary for a Kenya tour we help you on your way to a great trip in which you combine a safari in Kenya with many more beautiful Kenya sights.

START YOUR KENYA HOLIDAY IN THE METROPOLIS OF NAIROBI

You love it or you hate it. Nairobi is not for everyone. Those who love chaos, colors and vibrancy will certainly enjoy themselves in the Kenyan capital. Nairobi has everything from luxury shopping malls and colonial villas to slums and endless markets. Traffic is constantly at a standstill. Pastors sneak into stationary buses to pray with travelers and street vendors see their chance to sell bored motorists sunglasses and phone cards. Whatever you do, keep an eye on your belongings. Nairobi is also known as “Nairobbery”. After sunset, it is wise to take a taxi to cover longer distances and not to carry valuables with you.

Prefer to get away from the bustle of the city? Then use Nairobi as a stop-over on your way to a fantastic Kenya tour. Or visit the beautiful Nairobi National Park from Nairobi for an introduction to Kenya’s wildlife: savanna with skyscrapers in the background. Where in the world do you find that?

CYCLING THROUGH HELL’S GATE NATIONAL PARK

What could be better than spotting a zebra from your bike? In Hell’s Gate National Park you cycle across the savannah with a view of red canyons, herds of buffalo and lovely antelope. A Kenya safari by bike is a special experience and therefore a must on your Kenya trip. Travel from Nairobi by coach to Naivasha and spot hippos on the shores of the lake before exploring nearby Hell’s Gate National Park by bike. At the entrance you can rent bicycles. Are you not a cyclist? Hiking is also allowed here! There are no predators or elephants in this national park, but smaller game that is very worthwhile.

THE UNFORGETTABLE KENYA SAFARI

The country may have more to offer, but if you do go there, an unforgettable safari in Kenya cannot be missed during your holiday. There are several places where you can do such a safari.

SAFARI KENYA IN NAKURU

From Navaisha you will be in Nakuru in no time, at the beautiful Lake Nakuru and its national park of the same name, where you can make a wonderful Kenya safari. Here you come face to face with Africa’s predators, bathing elephants and large flocks of flamingos. Kenya comes alive in Nakuru. Take a game drive in the early morning hours or late afternoon for the best chance of action – who wouldn’t want to see lions on the hunt?

KENYA SAFARI IN MAASAI MARA

In the west of Kenya is also the famous Masai Mara. Here you see the great migration, when game moves to or from the Serengeti in Tanzania in search of water. Thousands of wildebeest and zebras migrate across rivers and plains, while leopards grab the weakest. Camping in the Masai Mara is a unique experience during your holiday in Kenya: hear the hyenas nibbling on your tent cloth and watch the sun set over the savannah. The romantic image from the books.

EVEN FURTHER INTO WESTERN KENYA: GREEN, GREENER, GREENEST

If you have more than three weeks to travel through Kenya, it would be wise to travel to the west of this vast country. Stroll through tea plantations, walk among banana trees and visit lively Kisumu on the shores of Lake Victoria. Have a Tusker Lager beer at Hippo Point and wait for the hippos to stick their snouts out of the water.

HIKING IN CENTRAL KENYA: MOUNT KENYA AND THOMPSON FALLS

Mount Kenya is familiar to every traveler: this majestic mountain makes all others pale. Do you want to go to her top? Then it is wise to hire a guide and set aside several days for a major climb during your Kenya holiday. Do you like hiking, but do you not have enough time or is this too much of a challenge? Then choose to visit Nyahururu and the Thompson Falls. This waterfall is located in a green valley, where you can take both easy and challenging walks. Nyahururu is also a great place to do some shopping: this medium-sized town has beautiful supermarkets and richly stocked fresh produce markets.

THE BEACHES OF KENYA

The fastest way to get to the coast is to catch a bus from Nyahururu to Nairobi and fly from there to Mombasa. Are you more of a slow travel fan? Then consider the train from Nairobi to Mombasa or a long-distance bus. Optionally, you can build in a stop in Voi. Here you can spend the night and for example visit the Tsavo East NP for even more safari in Kenya.

THE GEM WATAMU

Kenya has an incredible number of beautiful beaches. The name Diani Beach will ring a bell with many: a long coastal strip with pearly white beach and azure blue water. The palm trees are blowing back and forth. Behind the sand you will find discotheques, beer halls and grill restaurants. You can easily enjoy yourself here for a week.

Do you want something quieter during your Kenya holiday, but certainly something beautiful? Then consider a visit to Watamu. This lovely coastal town has great beaches, which are still undiscovered by the masses. Here you don’t stay in huge all-inclusive hotels, but you rent a room in a villa with a pool for only $30 or you stay at people’s homes. You get here in a few hours by bus from Mombasa. You can enjoy snorkeling and diving in the nearby Marine Park, endless walks on the beach and visit nearby coastal towns such as Malindi and Kilifi on a day trip.

MORE PRACTICAL TIPS FOR YOUR KENYA HOLIDAY

The bus is the simplest and cheapest form of public transport in Kenya. Minibuses run to cover distances of less than four hours. These vans work according to the ‘first come, first serve’ principle: is there room? Then sit back and pay the conductor. Do you want to cover longer distances? Then you go to the bus station to book your bus. Do count on the fact that the bus will only leave when most of the seats (if not all) have been filled. Flying from Kisumu, Nairobi or Mombasa can save a lot of time.

INTERNET IN KENYA

It can be useful to buy a Kenyan SIM card. You can then cheaply use the mobile network and use Google Maps to navigate. There is often wifi in backpacker hostels and more expensive hotels, but not always in local guesthouses!

VISA FOR YOUR KENYA HOLIDAY

To make a tour of Kenya you need a visa. An e-visa is sufficient for this, which you can arrange online up to 72 hours in advance via, for example, e-visums.nl.

Come raggiungere Gand?

Vediamole.

Cosa vedere a Gand – Le attrazioni principali

Cosa vedere a Gand? – Storia, stile e architettura

When I first visited Singapore , I realized that I fell in love with this city! He struck me to the very heart. Then there were Beijing , Hong Kong , Shanghai , Seoul , Tokyo and beyond, but every time I thought that I must definitely return there. To do this, I guessed the dates so that I could spend my birthday here. It was a kind of challenge to check if Singapore is as good as it seemed to me then, for the first time, or if I just didn’t know what to compare it to …

I flew through Tokyo, at the end I will tell you about the way back, it was fun.

This time I decided to start Singapore with the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore. One of the pluses was that, being a member of the Golden Circle (Golden Circle – loyalty system), I was entitled to a transfer from the airport to the hotel. It was very convenient after a long flight.

In the morning, I decided to once again walk through those places that left the most vivid impressions of Singapore. And, traditionally, the city conquered me every second. Neat clean streets, an insane amount of greenery and beautiful cars, what else is needed for a good rest and life)

Of course, I started with Marina Bay and the hotel I stayed in on my first trip – Marina Bay Sands .

What I love about Singapore is that even the most mundane things look magical here. For example, benches, sidewalks, etc. This time I looked more away from tourist routes and facades, it was interesting to see what residents and expats see.

The Marina Bay Sands embankment is one of the city’s calling cards. You can spend several days here, just looking into every building and institution, and even if you decide to just walk around, it will take you three or four hours. The place is amazing with the amount of detail and how interesting it is to look at it all, study and, of course, take pictures.

Next, be sure to climb to the observation deck of Marina Bay Sands. Of course, the ideal is to be a hotel guest, then you have more opportunities and a pass to the entire roof area, including the famous swimming pool. But, I lived here last time and did not repeat myself. Moreover, apart from the pass, there are no special advantages in living here. Interestingly, Singapore is growing and developing very quickly. I was here a year and a half ago, but already I came across new buildings that were not there in the past. And I’m not talking about tiny low-rise buildings, but huge skyscrapers of 40-50 floors. In addition, it is always interesting to look at Gardens by the Bay. Top view works better than any map. You immediately understand where you should go and how you will get there, what paths.
