The importance of accessories: what they are and how to choose them

Today we talk about accessories, why they are so important to give a right and original touch to our appearance, what they are and how to use them!

First of all, let’s remember a famous phrase by Coco Chanel, “fashion passes, style remains”, this is because the style of each of us is unforgettable over time, makes us unique and special, and distinguishes us among a thousand people, if well chosen! So how to have style? A useful weapon are precisely accessories, there are many and each of us can choose the one/s that he loves most and represents him. Here they are:

– BAGS : an essential accessory for us women, first of all it must be chosen based on our size, that is, it must be in scale with what we are. If we are petite, small or medium bags are perfect, if we are tall we can also carry larger ones . The color should be chosen in the tones of our complexion (to discover them you need to do a color analysis) and in nuance with the rest of our clothing, or completely separate from the rest if we wear clothing in rather neutral colors. Finally, for the model (crossbody, shoulder, hand, etc.) it would be good to know our physical morphology (if we are apple-pear-rectangle-hourglass women for example) because it helps us choose the model that does not highlight our defects but cleverly camouflages them… It is one of the accessories for which it is worth investing and spending a little more! Better a timeless leather bag, that goes with everything and will last at least 10 years, than a hyper-colored and trendy bag in synthetic material that lasts only one season…

– SHOES : a very important accessory for both women and men. They can be of any type, depending on our tastes: there are those who love flat heels and comfort, those who wear a medium heel and finally those who would never part with a nice 12 cm heel! For the health of our backs and feet, I remind lovers of high heels that they should be worn every now and then and not every day, otherwise you will suffer from back pain, bunions, etc. It is beautiful to be feminine but without putting our health at risk… I would also like to dispel a myth: it is not true that to appear taller you necessarily need to wear heels! They can certainly help but it depends on the model, and then there are many other image consulting tricks to slim a figure… The shoe can give a particular and whimsical touch to our appearance, completely detaching from the rest (the famous mix & match) or be in tune with our general style (classic if we are dressed in classic clothes, sporty if we wear practical clothes, and so on)

– HATS : a rarely used accessory, it is actually very useful for giving us an original allure and making simple clothing more special. Choose carefully based on the shape of our face (square, round, inverted triangle, etc.), but above all if we feel comfortable wearing it . Feeling “stiff” and uncomfortable with something that makes us feel strange and out of place is always a mistake… so let’s go for hats if we feel comfortable wearing them!

– GLASSES: these too are an accessory that is indispensable for some (see eyeglasses) and for some only an optional for sunny days. To be chosen carefully , as mentioned for many other points, both for the color and the shape of the frame ; the latter must be chosen in total agreement with the type of your face.

– BELTS : first of all a useful item (let’s not forget that it helps us keep our pants up better…) and that can give a right and unique twist. Also for belts, a good tip (valid for women and men) is to have many of them in different colors , because it can be a great help to make the same combination different (then choose shoes and bags accordingly). Nowadays the rule of choosing a belt that is the same as the shoe is no longer so rigid (at least for women; for men it remains a great must that I recommend).

– SCARVES AND FOULARDS : both in winter and in the warmer seasons it is an accessory suitable for those who love to have a touch of originality, and in winter it protects our throat from various ailments making us more fashionable at the same time. Choosing it tone on tone or in a contrasting color with the rest is always up to our taste and style! for the color, the rule of the undertone always applies (which you will have understood by now): cold shades for those with cold complexions tending towards pink, and warm shades for those with golden complexions, and tending towards yellow.

– JEWELRY, WATCHES AND BIJOUX : this is a very important chapter. For a man, choosing a nice watch (not necessarily expensive) can give a distinctive sign to the entire figure (see George Clooney in the photo), while for a woman there is a wide choice. There are those who love to wear only earrings, some necklaces, others bracelets or rings, usually each of us has a favorite bijoux that we never give up. Be careful of the “Christmas tree” effect: never wear too many together! – SOCKS : essential in the colder seasons, they can also be a touch of fashion! For men, white socks are absolutely forbidden … only terry or cotton ones for sports are allowed. Socks are fine (preferably not short, but long, more elegant) in various dark colors, for example blue, gray, black . For women, the choice is wide, and this year they will use patterned tights a lot.

– MAKE-UP : even make-up for us women is an accessory! So much so that not all of us use it, yet it is so easy to enhance a woman’s face with the right make-up, even simple and not intense… For example, you can choose to wear very simple clothes but focus on an intense and refined make-up , or choose to highlight our eyes with a strong make-up , or decide to leave the eyes almost bare and focus on lips with a strong color .

– MANICURE : this is also an often overlooked but very important accessory. Beautiful hands and nails always attract positive attention, especially for us women. Even short nails with nail polish are fine, as they have been in fashion for some time now; be careful with nail art and reconstructed nails or with semi-permanent nail polish: I advise you not to exaggerate with the length of the nails or too many decorations/ultra-showy colors. Wish is an American online e-commerce platform for transactions between sellers and buyers. Wish was founded in 2010 by Piotr Szulczewski (former CEO) and Danny Zhang (former CTO).

Wish is operated by ContextLogic Inc. in San Francisco, United States. The platform personalizes the shopping experience visually for each customer, rather than relying only on a search bar format. It allows sellers to list their products on Wish and sell directly to consumers. Wish works with payment service providers to handle payments and does not stock the products themselves or manage returns.

History

Wish was started by Piotr Szulczewski, a former Google engineer, as a software company called ContextLogic. In September 2010, ContextLogic received $1.7 million in investments and involved Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman.

In May 2011, Szulczewski invited college friend Danny Zhang to relaunch the company as Wish. It was created as an application that allowed shoppers to create wish lists of their favorite products before matching them with merchants. They also earned revenue with a Pay-per-click model by advertising on Facebook.

In 2013, Szulczewski met with Hans Tung, an investor with GGV Capital in Menlo Park, California, and noted that a large number of sales were coming from Florida, Texas and the Midwest rather than New York or California. Wish conducted a World Cup campaign in 2018, that featured Neymar, Paul Pogba, Tim Howard, Gareth Bale, Robin van Persie, Claudio Bravo and Gianluigi Buffon.

In response to the criticism, Szulczewski hired an executive from Facebook to organize a community of about 10,000 Wish users to expose unsatisfactory dealers in exchange for free goods and discounts.

It is often possible to purchase items from Wish that are not legal in the purchaser’s country. In January 2020, a man from Nelson, Lancashire, United Kingdom, was sentenced to 11 months in prison for purchasing a stun gun using Wish.

SOARING ON LANGKAWI IN MALAYSIA: SKY BRIDGE

It has been a while since I was allowed to visit beautiful Langkawi in Malaysia. Langkawi is located about 30 km from the mainland. It is one of the 99 islands in the Andaman Sea. In Langkawi everyone can do something fun. You can make beautiful scooter trips, spend a day at the beach or look for the high altitude! I did the latter, in combination with a self-organized scooter tour on the island.

To do on Langkawi, with your scooter to the Sky Bridge

1. SkyBridge

When visiting Langkawi, a trip to the SkyBridge is a must. Intended for daredevils, because this is the longest suspension bridge in the world! The SkyBridge is 125 meters long and it was certainly not an easy feat to hang this bridge. Ultimately, the suspension bridge was lifted to the top of the mountain by helicopter and was later suspended from there in its current position.

A nice side effect of the SkyBridge is, because it is located in the middle of nature, and is full of nice monkeys. They climb and scramble around and around you. A good tip is to hold onto your sunglasses and tuck away your food. The monkeys love treats and want to take them away from you, which is of course not healthy for them….

2. SkyCab

To get to this longest SkyBridge, another challenge awaits. You can only get to the SkyBridge by taking the steepest funicular (the SkyCab) in the world up. During this ride you get a beautiful view over the country. With clear weather you can even see the islands around Langkawi. The SkyCab goes over a rock that is more than 550 million years old and is located in the oldest part of Southeast Asia. The journey from the base station to the middle station will cover 1,700 meters and here you can already enjoy a beautiful panoramic view. Continue to the top station at an altitude of 708 meters above sea level. From here you can hike to two platforms at the top of Machincang Mountain. Here you have a beautiful view.

3. SkyDome

For those who prefer not to ascend to the high altitude, around the lower station at the foot of Machincang Mountain there is much more to do, such as a visit to the SkyDome, a 3D museum or a walk in the Oriental Village. Definitely worth taking a look. Tickets for all activities can be purchased on site.

4. Other Activities

Besides this heroic activity, there is much more to discover in Langkawi. There are plenty of beaches to relax in and the town itself is great fun to walk through. In the evening there are also various fire shows on the beaches. The trench coat

An essential in my wardrobe that I couldn’t live without, ideal for mid-season and that goes with everything! Trench coats come in many colors (including navy, black or khaki), but for me beige is the most versatile. Short, mid-long or long, there are also different shapes, to choose from according to your preference and size!

I recently invested in a used Burberry trench coat ( I told you about it in detail in this article ) and I’m so happy! If you are looking for an impeccably cut and high quality trench coat, I highly recommend the Scott trench coat from Sézane. One of my friends received it for her birthday and it is really ma-gni-fi-que! I also find it superb in khaki, I’ve been wanting it in this color for several seasons!

If you like patterns, this checkered model in organic cotton is hot! I myself have had a plaid trench coat for years that I really like ( I wear it in this article in particular ).

light jeans

When spring arrives, I wear more light colors and light blue denim is one of my basics . I bought these &Other Stories organic cotton jeans last year and I’m delighted! I was looking for well-cut straight jeans and I haven’t taken them off since I got them! It is very comfortable, its cut is great and it comes in lots of different colors (dark denim, black, beige etc). I’m wearing the mid-blue color here in size 25 (I’m a good 34/small 36 so it fits normally). I’m wearing it on this photo , on this one but also in this Instagram video (Thursday look).

I also have light flared jeans at the bottom from Rouje bought second hand on Vinted last year (which I also have in raw) and which I wear in this article (on the 2nd look) which I love the cut and the visible buttons at the level of the belt. In the same style, I love this model from &Other Stories, with small studs in the material ! I also spotted this model in organic cotton whose cut looks amazing! A white shirt/blouse

Another essential in my wardrobe, which goes with everything and can be worn both dressed up and more casually . It’s the piece I always fall back on when I don’t know what to wear : with jeans and a pair of ballet flats / sandals or sneakers, it always works great!

I invested in this white organic cotton shirt last year (after reading this excellent comparison article by Anne from Dressing Ideal ) and it is exactly what I was looking for. It is very well cut, thick enough not to be transparent (or really very very thin) and very comfortable. I highly recommend it if you are still looking for THE white shirt! This organic cotton model looks great too!

On the white blouse side, I have several that I have worn for years: my favorites are those with a pretty Peter Pan collar and pretty details on the sleeves ! I have a model very similar to this one that I have been wearing for years, also under sweaters to have the nice little collar sticking out!

I really like sweaters and soft vests in which we take pleasure in curling up ! In the spring I wear them a lot on blouses in particular, so that I can add or remove layers depending on the weather ?

Sézane makes a lot of knits that are both classic and lovely, including their iconic Gaspard cardigan , which comes in many colors, or their Achille cardigan , which I also find really beautiful.

White/ecru/beige jeans or pants

I’ve always loved wearing white pants and jeans and in spring: for me it’s a basic that brightens up any outfit! It allows you to change jeans, but goes with everything too! I love white monochromatic looks by the way, like one I’m wearing in this post ?

I’ve had the Adriano organic cotton jeans from the Balzac brand for 2 years and I really like them, even if they’re a little wide for me and I’d like to find a model that’s closer to the body. I spotted these ecru organic cotton jeans at &Other Stories which look great and with a fit quite similar to the Balzac. &Other Stories jeans are always super well cut I think!

If you don’t like flared pants at the bottom, this more skinny model (still in organic cotton) looks super nice!

A marinière / a striped top

I love sailor tops and striped tops which are basics for me all year round, but especially in the spring! I spotted this lovely thin sweater a few weeks ago that would be perfect for spring! I also loved this short-sleeved and cropped model that will look great with high-waisted jeans flared at the bottom for a retro look!

If you’re not into blue and white stripes, this camel/ecru Sézane striped sailor top will surely please you: I adopted it last year ( you can see it on me here ) and I like it a lot!

A plain or patterned skirt

I love to wear skirts and when you say the return of spring, you mean the return of your legs in the air without being cold! I wear both plain skirts that are easy to match with lots of outfits like patterned skirts, which I then pair with a rather simple or plain top like a thin turtleneck, a t-shirt or a blouse! For me, both are basics!

I recently bought this pretty slit skirt which I absolutely love and which is very versatile, whatever the season by the way! Many of you sent me the link to this skirt which is indeed a real marvel with its pretty flower and pearl details. Very Blair Waldorf!

An ecru t-shirt or tank top

The perfect ally to slip under these blazers or shirts and to wear with jeans, pants, shorts, skirts! As for the tank top, this model in organic cotton is a good basic and I really like this very feminine model with its original neckline or even this Balzac model in organic cotton that I got in mustard. A pretty piece of color

Who says spring, says color! This season I love to introduce little touches of color, either through accessories or through colorful clothes that are still easy to match! I particularly like the colored jackets or cardigans that bring pep to this season, like this pink coat that I wore a lot last year or this pink cardigan! To add color, I really like this pretty pink organic cotton t-shirt , this blue cardigan that gives you a healthy glow or this little multicolored knit top .

Personally, I’m eyeing this pink jumpsuit, which I find wonderful , and I also really like this super-successful pink dress !

If you want to bring color in a more discreet and less engaging way, cracking on pretty hair clips is a simple and inexpensive way to do it!

For me, the blazer is a piece that goes perfectly with all the pieces listed above! I confess to prefer it in beige color because it is the most versatile color for my wardrobe (but maybe for you it will be more black, gray or navy for example).

I bought this Sézane beige blazer 3 years ago and it’s one of the pieces I wear the most . Its cut is really successful and it is very comfortable to wear. A protected natural island on the west coast of Crete

We already showed that Crete is more than the touristic Hersonissos and Star Beach in our article about the other side of Crete . But the area around the island is also full of gems. Rocky beaches with clear blue water fill the more than 1000 km long coastline. Along this coast is also the protected Gramvousa peninsula, which can only be reached by boat.

The small peninsula of Gramvousa, made up of Imeri and Agria Gramvousa, has a history of which impressive remains can still be found. On Imeri Gramvousa are the remains of an ancient Venetian fortress, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. Formerly lived on the peninsula Cretan insurgents during the Greek War of Independence, now it is an island of pure tranquility.

How do you get there?

From the Netherlands you fly directly to Crete (Heraklion) in about 3.5 hours. If you book a flight ticket to Crete with Transavia, you can even choose from three airports: Schiphol, Eindhoven and Rotterdam/The Hague. From Heraklion Airport you can easily take the bus to the west of the island. It is really nice if you have your own transport and rent a car. Once in West Crete, you can take the boat from Kissamos to Gramvousa. Gramvousa Balos Cruise will bring you here, among others.

The boat stops first at Imeri Gramvousa, also giving you time to make the 137m climb to the fortress, which takes about 15 minutes. The climb is soon rewarded by the breathtaking view of the coastline of beautiful Crete. With a bit of luck you can see the Caretta Caretta sea turtles in the clear blue waters in the protected area of Imeri Gramvousa . There are also rumors of treasures buried on the island.

Lagoon Balos

The next stop is Lagoon Balos . With small boats you arrive at the beautiful beach of Balos, which is characterized by the low water. On this island you will find rare plants, so it has been decided to place this area completely under protection. Enough sunscreen is not a superfluous luxury when visiting Balos, also known as Tigani Balos: the casserole. It didn’t get its name just like that, because there is hardly a piece of shade to be found here.

Practical

Boats to Gramvousa depart from Kissamos, on the west coast of Crete. You can already order the tickets via the Gramvousa website. This way you are cheaper and you have the certainty that you will not be faced with a full boat in Kissamos. Bring your own food and drink, or buy it on the boat. Gramvousa is a natural island and you will not find dining options there. Another tip: before boarding, take a look at the town itself. Kissamos is known as a relatively small, non-touristy rural village where you get to see the real Crete among the Greek population. Worth taking a leisurely stroll around!

In 1994 Jeff Bezos, a former Wall Street hedge fund executive, incorporated Amazon.com, choosing the name primarily because it began with the first letter of the alphabet and because of its association with the vast South American river. On the basis of research he had conducted, Bezos concluded that books would be the most logical product initially to sell online. Amazon.com was not the first company to do so; Computer Literacy, a Silicon Valley bookstore, began selling books from its inventory to its technically astute customers in 1991. However, the promise of Amazon.com was to deliver any book to any reader anywhere.

While Amazon.com famously started as a bookseller, Bezos contended from its start that the site was not merely a retailer of consumer products. He argued that Amazon.com was a technology company whose business was simplifying online transactions for consumers.

The Amazon.com business strategy was often met with skepticism. Financial journalists and analysts disparaged the company by referring to it as Amazon.bomb. Doubters claimed Amazon.com ultimately would lose in the marketplace to established bookselling chains, such as Borders and Barnes & Noble, once they had launched competing e-commerce sites. The lack of company profits until the final quarter of 2001 seemed to justify its critics.

However, Bezos dismissed naysayers as not understanding the massive growth potential of the Internet. He argued that to succeed as an online retailer, a company needed to “Get Big Fast,” a slogan he had printed on employee T-shirts. In fact, Amazon.com did grow fast, reaching 180,000 customer accounts by December 1996, after its first full year in operation, and less than a year later, in October 1997, it had 1,000,000 customer accounts. Its revenues jumped from $15.7 million in 1996 to $148 million in 1997, followed by $610 million in 1998. Amazon.com’s success propelled its founder to become Time magazine’s 1999 Person of the Year.

The company expanded rapidly in other areas. Its Associates program, where other Web sites could offer merchandise for sale and Amazon.com would fill the order and pay a commission, grew from one such site in 1996 to more than 350,000 by 1999. Following Bezos’s initial strategy, the company quickly began selling more than books. Music and video sales started in 1998. That same year it began international operations with the acquisition of online booksellers in the United Kingdom and Germany. By 1999 the company was also selling consumer electronics, video games, software, home-improvement items, toys and games, and much more.

To sustain that growth, Amazon.com needed more than private investors to underwrite the expansion. As a result, in May 1997, less than two years after opening its virtual doors to consumers and without ever having made a profit, Amazon.com became a public company, raising $54 million on the NASDAQ market. In addition to the cash, the company was able to use its high-flying stock to fund its aggressive growth and acquisition strategy.

Beyond retailing

As noted above, Bezos claimed that Amazon.com was not a retailer but a technology company. To underscore the point, in 2002 the company launched Amazon Web Services (AWS), which initially offered data on Internet traffic patterns, Web site popularity, and other statistics for developers and marketers. In 2006 the company expanded its AWS portfolio with its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), which rents out computer processing power in small or large increments. That same year, the Simple Storage Service (S3), which rents data storage over the Internet, became available.

S3 and EC2 quickly succeeded and helped popularize the idea that companies and individuals do not need to own computing resources; they can rent them as needed over the Internet, or “in the cloud.” For example, in 2007, soon after launch, the S3 service contained more than 10 billion objects, or files; five years later, it held more than 905 billion. AWS is even used by Amazon.com’s rivals, such as Netflix, which uses both S3 and EC2 for its competing video streaming service.

COVID-19

At the end of March 2020, some workers of the Staten Island warehouse staged a walkout in protest of the poor health situation at their workplace amidst the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. One of the organizers, Chris Smalls, was first put on quarantine without anyone else being quarantined, and soon afterwards fired from the company.

The pandemic caused a surge in online shopping and resulted in shortages of household staples both online and some brick-and-mortar stores. From March 17 to April 10, 2020, Amazon warehouses stopped accepting non-essential items from third-party sellers. Acquisition of MGM

After months of speculation due to MGM’s poor financial performance from the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the movie industry, Amazon entered negotiations to acquire MGM at an estimated $9 billion on May 17, 2021. The companies agreed to the merger deal on May 26, 2021 for a total value of $8.45 billion, subject to regulatory approval. The deal would allow Amazon to add the MGM library to the Amazon Prime Video catalog, with the studio continuing to operate as a label under the new parent company. The merger was finalized on March 17, 2022 following the expiration of the FTC’s review deadlineand having cleared the European Commission two days earlier on March 15th.^[57]^[58]^[59]^[60]^[61]^[62]^[63] Later that day, Amazon Studios and Prime Video SVP Mike Hopkins revealed that Amazon will continue to partner with United Artists Releasing (MGM and Annapurna Pictures’ joint distribution venture), which will remain in operation to release all future MGM titles theatrically on a “case-by-case basis,” while “all MGM employees will join my organization.” It was also revealed that Amazon had no plans to make changes to the studio’s production slate and release schedules nor make all MGM content exclusive to Prime Video, providing some hope that the studio would operate autonomously from Amazon Studios. These plans are expected to not impact the future of the James Bond franchise and its creative team. Two town halls further detailing MGM’s future post-merger took place on March 18, 2022, which included one for MGM employees and one for Amazon Studios/Prime Video employees.Both revealed the new interim reporting structure as part of Amazon’s “phased integration plan,” which would involve De Luca, Mark Burnett (Chairman of MGM Worldwide Television) and COO Chris Brearton reporting to Hopkins on behalf of the studio.^[65] On April 27, 2022, it was announced that De Luca and Abdy would leave the studio.
